My husband and I had to do a very difficult thing today, we had to put our dog Indy down. She was diagnosed with tick and valley fever about a month ago and due to that her kidneys started to have issue too. We went through the entire routine… blood work, several meds etc. A few days ago she really started to get worse so we started to feed her with a syringe. She didn’t like it, but she took it. Yesterday morning she got to the point where she couldn’t even stand and didn’t want any water either. So after thinking it over for another night and no improvement, she couldn’t go to the bathroom either, we decided it was time. It was SO hard bringing her to the vet. Rick had to call to make the arrangements because I just couldn’t do it…
I brought along a t-shirt that I had been wearing around all day with us to keep under her head to give her some comfort. When we dropped her off the vet saw us approaching and quickly took us to the back where we placed her in one of the cages. She lied down so peacefully and I put the shirt under her head. She snuggled into it a bit so I guess she liked it there. We didn’t want to watch the procedure so they assured us they would have someone with her comforting her the entire time… She was already so relaxed in the cage, I can’t help but wonder if she some how knew…
We’ve had her for 12 years, our friend Terry had her from a puppy, but we got her not long after that when he had to move. She always been a good dog. She always did this little horse-shoe like wrap around your legs and stuck her face in between your knees. She really loved cats too…well she really wanted to have them for dinner more like it. Oh, speaking of that, a few days ago one of the cats got into the bedroom where Indy was…you should have seen her excitement, even in her sickened state she was like “oh yea, lunch!” We freaked out a bit then, but now I’m sort of happy it happened, it gave her a little bit of happiness in her last days.
We’ll really miss that fuzz ball, R.I.P. pretty girl.
