My hubby’s family is in town visiting from NH. This is the first time they’ve been able to visit us since Rick and I moved to AZ in 1995. The average temp in Phx this time of year is 100-105 and since they are used to much cooler temps we decided to head up north where it’s cooler. We booked a week at our timeshare and we all headed up last Sat. Rick and I could only stay for a few days, but we did a lot in that time. On Sunday we all went to Sedona, the place named most beautiful in the US last year I think. They have very scenic views all over and we took a lot of pics. They also have tons of places to shop which ruins it a bit, but we still had fun shopping.
On Monday we stayed in for the morning and then headed out to the local places in Flagstaff. It was a rainy and chilly day so we stayed close to the resort. We went to the museum and learned about all the native people originally in AZ and how they lived and what they left behind etc.
On Tuesday we got up early and went to the Grand Canyon. It was the first time Rick and I have seen it too. It was well…grand! The views were beautiful and some were a bit scary. Rick, Jeff (My brother in law) and Bill (My father in law) all thought it would be fun to venture out past the barriers and look out into the canyon on the cliff-like areas. I think I had a heart attack every time they were out there, Darcy (My mother in law) did too…must be a girl thing or something. I’m all for taking some risk, but that just didn’t seem safe at all. Rick didn’t have the right shoes on for climbing around out there… no tread etc. He slips on gravel easily, but there he was anyway on the edges etc. We say some wild animals, a mule deer, some very friendly squirrels and lots of lizards. There was also huge wasps everywhere… of course I was freaked out by them. It was really fun though. We left that night and headed back to Phx, had to work on Wed. We didn’t get home until 1 am and got a late start on Wed, but it was nice sleeping in my own bed. We’ll be going back up again soon.
